This book focuses on identifying and breaking our limiting beliefs and creating a super strong foundation of self-belief. Through this book, the author aims to help us find and experience freedom, true happiness and love.
According to him, the self-limiting beliefs that build through our childhood rob us of joy and creates needless suffering. In his book he talks about the four agreements we need to adopt to break all our self-sabotaging beliefs.
The four agreements are:
1. Be impeccable with your word.
2. Don’t take anything personally.
3. Don’t make assumptions.
4. Always do your best.
I personally enjoyed the first and last agreements. For a week after reading the book, I made a conscious effort to be watchful of my words and I must confess it wasn’t easy. Yet, I saw a huge difference after altering a few sentences.
I am certainly adopting Agreement #1 in my life. And in Agreement #4, Don Miguel stresses on how our 'best' changes from moment to moment, from the morning to night and when we are sick to when we are healthy.
The key is to do our best with regards to the state that we are in.
The moment I started to work on being my best, I am also able to notice the best in others.
